Internet marketing has become a necessity for online businesses that more and more methods are being developed to improve traffic, even sales, on Web sites.  Some resort to affiliate marketing, some to e-mail marketing, but those who know better resort to RSS.  Really Simple Syndication or RSS is a group of Web feed layouts that are being used to publish updates on blogs, headlines on recent news, even podcasts.  An RSS content can be accessed with the use of an RSS reader or ‘feed reader’ which is a software that does the reading.

A user is able to subscribe to a certain feed by keying-in the link of the feed into the reader.  There is an RSS icon that would begin the process of subscription.  The user can then access regularly to check on the latest updates, and he can even download any update that he finds useful or interesting.

Using RSS feeds to do some internet marketing could be a really powerful move.  Here are some of the ways that you could utilize the power of RSS to your online business’ advantage:

1. Podcasting and/or Videocasting means delivering audio or video contents through the Internet.  This method allows communication through media messages and the greatest advantage is that you can personalize your message to your target market.  In here, conversations are very much possible which opens up opportunities for further discussion regarding your business.  This is a recent innovation since the online world used to thrive on textual channels.  With the recent addition of podcasts or videocasts, people get to have a more interactive and more personal touch to the messages that they read.  Audio and video contents make it possible to let the ‘readers’ feel and not just see the message.  There are so many ways of utilizing these methods: by giving out press releases through audio or video feeds; setting up audio interviews; sending out personalized messages to customers from your company’s CEO; a clear demonstration on resolving issues; and many more.

2. Customer Support has greatly improved since there is a more personal approach with RSS feeds.  Online support (with audio or video contents) enhances the learning experience for any reader.

3. Appcasting means your business can now deliver crucial updates on software to your current clients.  This means they don’t have to click on your site each week just to find out.

4. Since press releases are much livelier with RSS feeds, even product news and updates could also be enlivened.  With the use of RSS, your current clients can be provided with tools that they can use to create their very own product feeds.  Once the customers are subscribed, they get updates as soon as your online business’ portfolio changes.

5. Your subscribers can have the choice of personalizing the content of their services.  For instance, they could choose from dating, job listings, real estate, and many others to be added to their personalized RSS feed.  This means that they get to choose what gets delivered along with your usual RSS feeds from your online company.  Other innovations also include having your RSS feeds delivered to your mobile phone.  Once an update is made, the clients would immediately receive SMS.  It’s simple, convenient and highly effective.

These are all great (and highly technological) opportunities to reach your market—and RSS feeds make them all possible.

RSS Feed Internet Marketing

April 2nd, 2008 Posted in internet marketing

RSS is a huge part of the Web 2.0 phenomenon that is taking the web by storm. RSS provides an easy way for people who are interested in your content to subscribe to your site and have it delivered to them. Internet experts cannot even agree what the letters “RSS” even stand for. You get nearly equal votes for “Rich Site Summary” and “Really Simple Syndication”. Whatever the letters stand for, RSS is a tool that every blogger should be using to gain publicity for their site, and to keep interested surfers regularly reading your content.

The key to RSS feed internet marketing is to provide content which people will find interesting enough to come back and read regularly. This is the great problem bloggers all over the world face. Getting top quality content written at an economically viable price is by no means easy. There are many writers on freelance sites quoting very low fees, but often the quality of the work, and of the service, is not up to the standard needed by professional businesses. Some of the top businesses can take control of the situation by employing their own writers outright, but that is beyond the scope of most of us when we are starting out.

There are now even ways to incorporate RSS feeds into a type of email marketing replacement strategy. Marketers who have become ever more disillusioned by deliverability problems associated with email marketing can use an RSS feed to deliver their content with far greater reliability. The big problem with this is that a lot of computer users who are completely comfortable and familiar with using email struggle to understand RSS.

As Web 2.0 becomes ever more commonplace, these problems should recede, and RSS will have an ever more important role to play in content distribution. There even exists the possibility of using RSS feeds as part of paid content distribution, using RSS as a replacement for email due to its greater reliability. This is a serious possibility for the future of RSS feed internet marketing.
